The Palazzo Reale in Milan exhibits a monographic exhibition of Pablo Atchugarry's work.

From October 27 to January 30, 2022, a monographic exhibition of Pablo Atchugarry will be on display at the Palazzo Reale in Milan.

Life of matter is the name given to this great monographic exhibition that opens this Wednesday in the heart of Milan. The Sala delle Caryatides will house a group of 40 works from the last years of his artistic career.

Promoted and produced by Comune di Milano Cultura, Palazzo Reale, Skira Editore and Gruppo Euromobil, Zalf and Désirée, the exhibition is curated by art critic Marco Meneguzzo, in collaboration with the artist, and has been staged by Reggiani in terms of lighting technology.

The Palazzo Reale was for many centuries the seat of the government of Milan and is now a cultural center, hosting exhibitions, shows and activities related to art and culture. The Palazzo is located to the right of the Duomo of Milan in the royal square of this city.

The exhibition aims to be a point of reflection and a tribute to the great career of Pablo Atchugarry, a sculptor who, with his international fame, his many exhibitions, his presence in the most important collections in the world and his international market results, is the true example of an artist who has been able to concentrate in his work the globalized taste of all collectors and experts in the world.

His work in recent years has concentrated on large marble sculptures - all personally worked and sculpted - but now, in the scope of his latest production, they are giving way to reflections on the sinuous and linear forms of nature, but carved directly into wood or emerging from centuries-old olive tree trunks.

"I once wrote that the marble has a subtle and delicate voice, however, if we are attentive and have the patience to listen to it, it tells us several secrets that could be suggestions on how to work it or how far to be able to go and what its limits are... These secrets mean truly entering into the interiority of the matter and it is then that one breathes, almost in unison, with the rhythm marked by the marble. This is a universe", says Pablo Atchugarry saysPablo Atchugarry in an interview granted in 2006 and published again among the texts of the catalog.

The exhibition translates a particularly complex project under various aspects, among which the weight and number of the works - more than 40, varying in the years of production -, dialogue with the architecture of the Hall of the Caryatids; the latter still bears the signs of the fire that devastated it during the war and is also the "life of matter", which gives the title to the exhibition.

An important and unique exhibition, a tribute from Milan, the first city visited by the young Uruguayan artist who had just arrived in Italy at the end of the seventies.

The exhibition is accompanied by the catalog and a valuable "limited edition" of sixty copies, each containing a wood sculpture made by the artist, published by Skira.
